David B. Eskind (1909-1992), a radio scriptwriter and producer, was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He studied writing under Thornton Wilder at the University of Chicago, from which he graduated in 1934. For the next several years he wrote radio scripts for NBC and CBS. During World War II he served in the Army in the Pacific as a writer-producer of Army education and information programs. John Bruce Medaris (b. May 12, 1902, Milford, Ohio-d. 1990), Major General in the U.S. Army, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1918 and served in France during World War I. He was later commissioned as an officer and served with the 29th and 33rd Infantry Regiments in the U.S. and Panama. Although he resigned from the Army in 1927, he returned to active duty in 1939.
